Another successful Open has been run and won. Numbers were down on recent Open events but this has been the case at most Clubs running Open events recently. It was pleasing to see some competitors back in the scene after having been absent for quite a number of years. We also had several long distance runners with two from the Canberra district but there were quite a number that had travelled 6 or 7 hours to take part in the event. It was also pleasing to see the number of 1st time "Open" contestants taking part in the event. Bruce Quick took out the 5 match Aggregate, Amanda Graham won the 3 Match Aggregate and Isabella Burton took out the Junior 2 Match Aggregate. Glen Innes Pistol Club will this month become the first Club in New South Wales with a high pressure air pump for refilling Compressed Air Pistol Cylinders rather than rely on Dive Tanks or the Labour Intensive High Pressure Hand Pumps. (see photo of the unit below)
The Club takes delivery of the new Pump from Potter New England Firearms in time for our Open shoot in just over a week. This pump has many advantages to Club members as they no longer have to rely on getting their Dive Tanks periodically re-certified and refilled or pump Air Pistol Cylinders up by hand with the manual pumps which require considerable effort to fill a Cylinder from empty. The pump will be available every weekend at the Club for those wishing to contest air matches or top up a tank if the pressure fails in their Pistol Cylinder during a match. In the past, visiting shooters have arrived at our Competitions expecting to be able to fill their empty Cylinders before competing only to find that we have not had the facility available and have then had to chase around other competitors to borrow a pump or get a fill from someone else's Dive Tank. This is all now in the past and we will be able to provide a service not available at most Country Pistol Clubs. Nine members and two potential new members attended the Range last Saturday.
Four members contested a Standard Pistol Match with Kerri winning both off barrel and on Handicap. Daughter and son duo Jacqui and Cooper contested a 60 shot air pistol match with Jacqui leading the way off barrel by 4 points and Cooper winning on handicap by 12 points. One of our new members furthered his training by receiving further coaching in Air Pistol with Charles doing some additional work with the excavator to remove potential hazards from the 50 metre range before our upcoming Open Shoot. Our two prospective members seem very keen to follow on and join the club and will undertake their initial training later this month. There will be a working bee next Saturday to prepare facilities for the February Open scheduled for the following weekend with competition to commence at 3 pm on Friday 15th February. |
