June Update

30/6/2025

The end of the competition and reporting year for attendances for the Glen Innes Pistol Club has now ended with the new year commencing this Saturday.

Two new members attended the club last Saturday for their initial instruction in rimfire pistol while two other members took the opportunity to clear regrowth from an area in readiness for relocation of the shipping container to a more convenient and permanent location which will also increase the amount of parking available at future Open events held by the Club.

Three members took the opportunity to contest two 48 shot 1500 matches each and a standard pistol match, all with varying degrees of success.

Scheduled matches next Saturday are Standard Pistol and 50 metre rimfire rifle.

VALE -IAN STANLEY ADAMS

The Club received advice last Saturday that Ian Adams, aged 85, had recently passed away with his funeral to be held on Monday 16th June 2025.

Ian had the honour of being the oldest member of the Club (in terms of both age and also the longest continuous membership of the club) being a founding member of the present Glen Innes Pistol Club which was formed at a Special meeting held on 27th February 2025 with Club approval issued in May of that same year. There was a previous Pistol Club in Glen Innes that Ian had also been a member of which unfortunately folded several years earlier.

His Club membership lapsed in August 2024 due to his declining health and the fact that he was sole carer for his wife who also suffered from serious health issues.

Ian fell short of 50 years continuous members by a mere 6 months. There would only be a small number of Pistol Club members Australia wide who could lay claim to being a continuous member of any one club (or even multiple clubs) for so many years.

Our condolences go to Ian's family.

A small contingent of members attended yesterday with 3 contesting a 50 metre Rimfire Rifle Match, One contesting a 10 metre Air Pistol Match and three contesting 2 matches each of the 48 shot WA1500 match.

The weather was not particularly inviting with cold drizzle setting so the Centre Fire Match of the day was cancelled and all those in attendance enjoyed an early day to get out of the cold.

The Range is closed next weekend to competition for the King's Birthday Holiday weekend and we will resume competition on Saturday 14th June with Rapid Fire Pistol and 25m Black Powder being the scheduled matches of the day commencing at 1pm.

As published in our annual calendar, the Range is closed to all competition this Saturday 19th April for the Easter Weekend.

The five Committee members present last Saturday also decided to close the Ranges on Saturday 26th April due it being the Anzac day long weekend and it was highly likely that members would not attend the facility that day.

The ranges were all closed last weekend due to SES warnings issued for the area asking that people stay at home and to delay all but essential travel due to anticipated adverse weather conditions of gale force winds and torrential rain coming from Cyclone Alfred.
As it turned out,  the winds were nothing out of the ordinary and most areas around town recorded less than 50 mm over the Friday, Saturday and Sunday - less than 25% of predictions.

There was no damage or tress down anywhere in the Pistol Club Reserve.

We got back into Club competition yesterday with 8 members in attendance contesting a total of 12 matches for the day.

Scores are now on the Results page of this site.

Match of the day next Saturday will be Standard Pistol commencing at 1 pm

February Update

The first Open event for 2025 was held over the weekend of 14-16th February with 44 entries received and 156 matches contested.
We had 10 visitors from Wyong Club and 3 from Kurrajong Club travel to join us and all have indicated that they will be back in September for our second Open for the year.
I am still waiting on the final catering figures but it would appear that the event was not only successful in terms of entries and matches contested but was also financially successful.
We had six members attend yesterday with 14 matches contested with varying degrees of success but the day was enjoyed by all.

Matches of the day next Saturday are Standard Pistol commencing at 1 pm and 50 metre rimfire rifle expected to commence at 11 am.

The Organising Secretary is very please with the number of entries received to date with 10 entries from Wyong Club (5 have never visited us before) and 3 from Kurrajong Club (none have visited us before)

With 3 days until entries close, we are looking at a one of the biggest competitions we have held since the disruptions of COVID.

Seven members attended the Club over the weekend with all members shooting multiple matches.

There was no less than 30 matches contested over the 3 days which would have to be a record for a Club weekend.

The best scores for each member for each match appears on the Results page.

There is not expected to be a large attendance this weekend, being the Australia Day Long Weekend, but Centre Fire will be the match of the day commencing at 1 pm on Saturday.

Very happy with the attendance yesterday considering that nany people are still enjoying their Christmas/New Year break.

Six members attended the Club and contested 6 WA1500 x 48 shot matches (3 members shooting 2 matches each), 2 members shooting a 50 metre rimfire rifle match and then all 6 members in attendance then contesting a Standard Pistol Match.

Next weekend is the first of our two day weekends with Black Powder and Rapid Fire scheduled for Saturday afternoon and a Sunday Match of either Centre Fire/Sport Pistol or Standard Pistol to be contested at 10 am.

Bob has kindly offered to stay overnight Saturday night to supervise the Sunday event.

Hopefully, these weekends will prove popular and continue well into the future improving attendances by all members.
