Working Bee on 26th and 27th August

What a big weekend for the 6 members who worked until after dark Saturday night and the 5 members who worked all day Sunday replacing the first 21 metres of the collapsing retaining wall at the front entry of the Club House.
The old and rotting logs were removed along with some of the fill behind them in the old wall and 23 concrete blocks installed in their place, better quality fill placed behind the new blocks and then the fill top dressed with good quality soil.
(We hope to purchase another 60 plus blocks and replace the remainder of this retaining wall right through to the targets on the western side of Range 2 within the next 12 months to permanently solve the issues now developing with the logs collapsing before it becomes an issue with Firearms Registry and the Club's Operating Licence)
The large Pine Tree and Box Tree on the bank at the front of the Club House had started to interfere with the power line to ranges 3 and 4 and were also removed as part of the project.
A special thanks to Charles who used his tractor to lift the concrete blocks into place (they each weight 1.2 tonne) as well as undertaking the other heavy lifting tasks which would not have been possible without the use of his machine.
Gutters and down pipes on the Club house were all thoroughly cleaned to ensure we collect maximum clean water into the tanks (if it ever rains again).
Overhanging undergrowth that had started to hang onto the road as well as a number of low branches hanging over the road were also removed making visibility on the access road much better while entering or leaving the complex.
As a final task, a sign with directions to the Pistol and Rifle ranges was also installed opposite the intersection and road to Range 5 (Rifle Range)
We will be shooting next Saturday with Match of the day being Standard Pistol commencing at 1 pm.
The following weekend, all ranges will again be closed and there will be another working bee to mow all ranges and tidy up the facility in readiness for the September Open to be held on 15th, 16th and 17th September
